May at Dance Station

It’s warming up outside — and inside — the studio. We have a lot on our plate in May, and we are sure you’ll find something on our schedule that interests you. Here are the May highlights. Visit our calendar page to stay up-to-date on everything going on at the studio.

1st Thursday Dance. Join us for our First Thursday variety dance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2. Admission is $10. We play a variety of music, so there is always something fun to dance to.

We’ll have a brief performance by the Kids Class (pictured) — our troupe of young dancesport athletes who are training for the Colorado Star Ball in June and the Albuquerque Dance Fiesta in September.

All proceeds from Thursday’s dance will go to the “Kids Competition Fund” to help defray their (not insignificant) costs of attending these competitions.

Admission to the dance is free for anyone who attends Thursday’s Intro to Social Dance class at 6:45 p.m. This week’s lesson is ballroom. Admission to the Intro Class is $15. Learn some moves for the variety dance at this fun, easy-going Intro class.

Competitor Practice. Our last Competitor Practice before the Colorado Star Ball is Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m.

These monthly Competitor Practices allow our competition-minded students to dance rounds with their teachers or partners as they would at a dance competition. The cost is $40 for the first style and $10 for each additional style. If you’ve never participated, talk to Lawrence or Mary for more information.

Spectators are free, and are always welcome!

Milonga. Santa Fe Tango hosts its May milonga from 7 – 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. Max Cubillos will DJ. Admission is $10 for members; $15 for non-members.

The Rifters. The Rifters return to Dance Station for live music and dancing at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Admission is $20.

Mike Garcia and Elli Hindmarch

Blues/Swing/Fusion dance. Swing teachers Mike Garcia and Elli Hindmarch (pictured) host a Blues/Swing/Fusion dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 25. Admission is $15 (on a sliding scale); local dance teachers pay $5.

See you on the dance floor!
