April at Dance Station

The warmer weather brings a host of dance opportunities in April, culminating with our Student Showcase on Sunday, April 27. Dance Station teachers Lawrence Black and Mary Miller, and Mike Garcia and Elli Hindmarch, are also performing in the Choreographers Showcase this weekend — Friday and Saturday,April 4-5, presented by the New Mexico Dance Coalition. This is a second level course of the widely popular dance, West Coast Swing. Prior knowledge of a Left Side Pass, Right Side Pass, Sugar Push and Basic Whip is highly encouraged. In this class, we’ll begin to explore the conversational side of the dance through the many variations of our patterns. You’ll begin learn how to add your own style and interpretation to this partner dance. This is a group class, and as such you’ll be expected to rotate partners,

Intro to Social Dance, Swing with Mary
Just getting started in dancing? Our Intro to Social Dance class is tailored for beginning dancers with little or no experience. Each class will introduce the basic skills of partnering (leading or following), timing, and basic movement. We will focus on a different popular dance every week, including salsa, Country-Western, swing, and tango.

This class is excellent for repetition practice for newer dancers and a wonderful way to get started in the world of dance. This is a drop-in class, so there is no long-term commitment. Just come when you can. You can sign up and pay online here, or pay when you come to class. Cost is $15 per person per class.

7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Dance Rounds

This is a great opportunity for Amateur and Pro/Am dancers to practice what they have been working on with their instructors. Rhythm, Smooth and Standard styles will be danced. Please talk to your instructor to sign up.

Cost: Amateur Couples $20

Pro/Am Couples $40 for first style, additional styles $10 each

Spectators are welcome to attend these informal events for free and can come and go as they please. Ballroom dancers always enjoy performing before an appreciative audience!
