Dance Station staff and students wished a fond farewell to student Ken Duerre and his wife Susan Hazen-Hammond at a party in their honor on Thursday, July 9th. There was a great turnout of well wishers and dancers to see Ken in his farewell performance as the Godfather in his Waltz with Karen and the performance favourite “I like to Lead When I Dance” Foxtrot with Kristine.
While some tears were shed, it is with great excitement that Ken and Susan are relocating to Iowa. There, Susan will take part in the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, a world renown two year program for writers. While in Iowa, Ken will be taking lessons at a studio owned by Ed Simon, a long time Dance Station visiting coach and coincidentally the choreographer of his Foxtrot number.
Visiting with all their dancing friends, Susan recounted the story of her first dance with Ken. They were at a studio party and Ken, who had been dancing about a year at the time, asked Susan a relative newcomer to the studio, to dance a Quickstep. That was twelve years ago and Ken and Susan have been happily dancing together ever since. ![]()
We wish Ken and Susan the very best in their new journey and hope it is filled with love and dancing!
