Ask Poppy—How Do I Perspire Gracefully?

poppy-chiffon_shocking.jpg

Dear Poppy,

I am drenched after dancing for just an hour. It is embarrassing and I don’t know how to keep from sweating so much. I love to dance; it would be nice not to have to be so wet with sweat. Is there a way to sweat gracefully?

Sweat Queen

Dear Sweat Queen:

Sugar, women do not sweat. We perspire. We are not allowed to change our clothing like men change their shirts when we are out dancing. However, our perspiration is sweet and it is our glowing nature to accept the dampness it causes. Additionally, Sweetie, you must be having a terrific time to be sweating so much. You go, girl!

Dear Poppy,

I am dripping wet when I dance. Is there a way to keep your clothes dry when dancing? I have a really hard time staying dry. Do you think that it is offensive to be so wet? I really sweat a lot.

Sweaty

Dear Sweaty,

Let me say this again: As dancers, we do not sweat. We perspire. It is natural that some of us perspire more than others. However, if you are perspiring, you are probably having a great time dancing, right? It is a hot, aerobic activity and most of us perspire if we are really dancing! You are not the only one. Remember to wear long sleeve shirts that are made of cotton or a breathable fabric. These dry much faster than synthetics. It is better for your clothes to absorb the perspiration than for you to be perspiring all over your partner, Honey.
