Kristine and Colin

NAOUSA, Greece — On a low cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea, Dance Station’s own Kristine wed Santa Fe artist Colin Poole.

Some 25 family members and friends, including several from Dance Station, were on hand Friday as the couple literally took the plunge into marriage. After exchanging rings, Colin and Kristine jumped into the sea and invited their guests to join them. Kristine’s mother, Vivian, was among those who took the couple up on their invitation.

On hand from Dance Station were Lawrence Black, Axel Patton and Glen Nicolet (who provided the photos and the on-scene report.)

The wedding took place on a sunny, rocky outcropping near the town of Naousa on the northern tip of Paros Island.

Members of the wedding party started making preparations on Thursday.

“Some of us collected white rocks from one beach and drove from the south side of the island and took them to the wedding site on the north side,” Glen explained. “These were used to mark a path or trail, like breadcrumbs, from the parking area to the location of the ceremony.”

The night before, the group headed to the town of Aliki for a dinner party hosted by Colin’s mother, Jullian. That’s her on the right in the photo of “The Moms,” along with Vivian (left) and Diana King (center), Colin’s aunt.

Friday’s activities started with a morning sailboat cruise around the island of Antiparos, a relatively underdeveloped place that is famous for its large limestone grotto where centuries-old graffiti is still visible among stalagmites and stalactites.

After a barbecue on the beach, the group headed back to the Paros island town of Aliki to freshen up for the ceremony, on the other side of the island. As the photo of the wedding party shows, it was a big group!

The ceremony itself “was very touching, romantic and interesting,” Glen said.

That evening, everyone gathered for a reception and dinner.

“The bride and groom — she dressed in a gorgeous gown, he in a formal tuxedo and both wearing sandals — danced the tango with grace and beauty and in a very tender way,” Glen said.

Our thanks to Glen for the great report and the terrific photos!

For those of us who could not be in Greece, find out how you can be part of Dance Station’s welcome home party for Kristine and Colin later this month!
