Don’t Miss Body Flight Performance Friday
Dance Station’s in-house professional dance troupe, Body Flight, will perform Friday at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion as part of a fundraising benefit for the Monte del Sol Charter School.
Body Flight dancers will teach a short class at 8 p.m. and then will do a short performance featuring salsa, “swango,” bolero/tango and a group merengue. Just about all of the Dance Station instructors will be performing, including Lawrence Black, Mary Brennecke, Karen Collazo, April Evans, Mike Garcia, Jason Miller, Jeff Nelson and Cheryl Noonan.
The event runs from 6 to 11 p.m. and also features a silent auction and Latin music from DJs Pablo Ancona and Avi from the Mambo Room.
Admission is $25 for dinner and dancing and $10 for the dance party only. For tickets and more information, call (505) 982-5225, ext. 420. Proceeds will benefit Chapulin, a language immersion cultural exchange program in Oaxaca run by Monte del Sol.
Dance Because You Can This Weekend
This weekend is the 10th Annual “Dance Because You Can” Fundraiser to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Organizers are sponsoring two dances and a host of dance workshops Saturday and Sunday. The workshops, taught by top instructors from around the Southwest, will cover West Coast Swing, night club and Country-Western Two-Step, salsa, hustle, and more. The workshops start at 9 a.m. each day at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE.
The weekend kicks off with a social dance Friday night at Graham Central Station in Albuquerque, and the highlight is a black-tie-optional dinner dance at the Sandia Resort & Casino. For more information, visit www.becauseyoucan.us, see this blog post, or call (505) 299-3737.
